Melrose is an unincorporated community in Alachua, Bradford, Clay, and Putnam counties. It lies on State Road 26, approximately 17 mi east of Gainesville and approximately 50 mi southwest of Jacksonville. The town lies on Lake Santa Fe. Its history dates back to the late 1800s when the area was settled as a resort destination. The community was named after Melrose Abbey in Scotland. Melrose has a rich history tied to agriculture, tourism, and the development of its charming lakeside character.
